Not your average day in the office…some of our team members replaced their roller chairs and computer screens for Amaro brown Merino leather seats and an open raceway during BMW’S M Track Days Event last Tuesday, May 23rd.
Some of our participating Sulzer employees included our President, two Project Managers and three Developers who got the chance to drive in four main events! See the details on BMW’s page: https://mtrackdays.bmwusa.com/
The events included:
Instructors led participating drivers on an intense game of tag, demonstrating the full capacity of what the BMW M2 and BMW M3 can do. Under the supervision of an instructor, our Sulzer drivers could race their cars at speeds close to 100mph! This event was an obvious team favorite!
Drivers experienced 0-60mph in just a few seconds, and were challenged to bring their ride to a halting stop within a proximity of just a few traffic cones in the shape of a box! Drivers raced in each of the M models which included the M2, M3, M6, X5M, and X6M. Our front end developer, Elliot remarks on his favorite event saying, “Drag racing these new vehicles was a ton of fun since I got to really step on the accelerator and feel the acceleration of the car”.
To highlight the features and capabilities of the BMW M4, drivers partnered up and competed for the fastest two laps around a track. Our fastest member was George, a mobile IOS developer, who placed 216th with a time of 00:22:971 seconds. After his win, George joked with the rest of the team, “It’s kind of funny, because to win I didn’t follow any of the instructions they told us…I just did it my way”. You can feel the intensity in the competition since the number one spot finished in 00:20:818 seconds!
Watch out and let the professionals take over. In this event, drivers sat shotgun as the instructors accelerated the ride, performing tricks and increasing speeds that couldn’t be done anywhere else!
The BMW M Track Days Event was absolutely a unique opportunity for our Sulzer employees to see their projects in a whole new way! And when the opportunity calls to interact with our own products, we race to it!
